The Grace of God
Posted: May 2, 2011

Did you every watch a video of children in what is euphemistically called a “Developing Nation” and think, “there but for the grace of God go I”? I have even had those thoughts that while driving through poverty-ridden surroundings to some of our major cities and wonder, “Lord, why have I been so fortunate to have been born where I was and to have the family I’ve had?”

So, imagine being born poor and in Calcutta? On top of that, being born without eyes? This is the story of Papai who was considered a curse to his family and rejected because of it. They wanted nothing to do with him and sent him off to the Calcutta Blind School. Lucky for him!

At four years old, Papai is small enough to fit almost anywhere, but he’s perfect for this school. He is the youngest boy here and is getting attention and help from the older boys and girls with daily, practical needs such as eating.

Since his arrival, Papai has quickly responded to the love and attention he receives. When he first arrived, he was nearly immobile, but now he can be found moving about freely with eas. So freely, that with the turn of a head you might find Papai scaling the stairways or swinging upside down from a chair with an enormous grin on his face – all signs that this little wanderer is finally comfortable in a place he calls “home”.

Thank you for making this possible!
