Blind, But Now He Sees

Trinh is able to see and read!
We recently received the following report from a staff member in our Asian office. You can see just what your gifts to Orphan's Promise are doing to change lives around the world.

For a poor family in a rural village in Vietnam, the birth of a son was a joy. But, as time passed it was apparent their son, Trinh, had a problem with his eyes. The family was devastated when it was confirmed he was blind in one eye and had only a small amount of vision in the other.

In spite of his disability, Trinh attended school. He loved to go to class and he enjoyed learning. In order to read his school books and papers, Trinh had to hold papers right to his face in front of his one decent eye. It was a struggle, but he really wanted to learn and nothing, not even his poor sight, was going to stop him.

In September, an occupational therapist visited Trinh and taught him how to get around with a walking cane. Before he had the cane, he could find his way to school and home. But after learning how to use the cane, Trinh discovered a new world of adventure and opportunity. Just last month, our partner ministry, recruited a Korean ophthalmologist, to examine Trinh's eyes to see if anything could be done to help his sight. The doctor told the family he did not believe that further surgery would help, but did prescribe a simple magnifying glass.

This has made another important difference in this child's life. For the first time, Trinh can see his father! Also, Trinh has become an even better student in school as he is able to read school books for the first time without having to press them against his face.

We are all praying for Trinh as he moves to become a more independent young man. Thank you for your support and prayers for Trinh and thousands of children throughout the world aided through Orphan's Promise.

Orphan's Promise is providing $1,900 a month to support 86 families in the "Special Forces" program, most of whom have special needs children. Not only are families assisted with food and basic needs, but therapy is also provided to the children and training for the parents. Four of these families who are most at risk receive deeper holistic support, which includes income generating projects for the family as well. Vietnamese therapists provide therapy and training.

Thank you Orphan's Promise Family for partnering with us to bring hope and help to so many deserving children in this corner of the world.
