Orphan’s Promise has undergirded a project in India for the construction of the village school’s roof.
The old roof at Anusaran was falling apart and rain leaked in constantly. Also, due to the material in the old roof, it was unbearably hot in summer and very cold in winter – in monsoon, useless. The rain was so terrible, blowing in and ruining the handiwork that had been completed by our classes, also the sewing machines and carpet on the floor were ruined.
Classes at Anusaran include; beauty therapy, stitching, embroidery and education as well as our bible studies and prayer time..
I wanted to share the story of Meena, who is now a member of our staff. While still a teenager, she had serious difficulties. In India, harassment over dowry issues can turn into horrible situations. Meena’s parents and family members were thrown into prison while Meena escaped to her aunt’s house. Hoping to be able to attend school, she was instead sent to work as a domestic caring for 2-3 houses. Then her aunt married her off to a Mentally disturbed man who beat her and threatened her with a knife. After years of this torture, she finally escaped and was reunited with her family who were now out of prison.
After some time Meena started coming to Anusaran with one of her neighbors. She joined stitching and beautician classes and eventually became a teacher. She applied for divorce and was granted that as well.
She also found something even more valuable, the unconditional love of Christ. She is surrounded by others who share their personal difficulties and realizes that she is not alone. She is happy and understands that God is there for her and loves her unconditionally.
Being in Anusaran she developed confidence and she has changed into a joyful, young woman. A school, a new roof, another life changed. Together there is no end to what we can do to break the cycle of poverty and distress.
Thank You, Terry
