When we were in India last and visited a home for deaf children, these two little boys who are blind were just being dropped off at the school by their father. It hurt my heart to see the fear in them and the way they clung to their dad. Of course, they were too young to understand that he was leaving them there so that they could learn and receive some training in order to have a future. They were terrified and the dad was trying to comfort them but he was sad also. Our hearts broke for them. We sponsored their education last year and will do the same this year.
Our field person tells us that both of the boys are doing well and are now in Upper Kindergarten grade. They are learning rhymes, counting and multiplication tables. They will also learn Braille at a later stage.
Normal schooling you may think, but not normal for children who live in India, one of the world’s poorest countries. Especially not normal for children who have any sort of disability.
Their family has not forgotten them and their father visited them in May and took them home for a month. Both of the children have learned and are speaking Bengali. The family is most grateful for the help they have received and find it difficult to imagine their good fortune. We know that God loves all of His children and we thank you for realizing this and helping those less fortunate.
Thank you for caring,
Terry
