UKRAINE - Twelve-year-old Sasha ripped off the paper of his carefully wrapped Christmas present. His eyes lit up when he saw his very own children’s Bible full of beautiful illustrations. This might be the only present Sasha will unwrap this Christmas, because he is an orphan living with 99 other children just like him.

One hundred children at the Stara Zburivka orphanage in Ukraine bundled up in their winter coats and gathered to watch the Christmas program organized by the staff of Orphan’s Promise in Ukraine.

The afternoon was full of games, Christmas songs, stories, and of course, a present for each child.

Children between the ages of six and 18 looked on attentively as they heard the story of the wise men and the shepherds and finally about the birth of Jesus, come to be our Messiah.

“I just love it!” Exclaimed Sasha as he gazed at the illustrations in his new Bible. “I’m going to be able to read it every day if I want to.”

He also didn’t seem to be disappointed with the chocolate bar he was eating as he talked!
