China
Update 2010 - As we've often explained, Orphan's Promise loves to work with the local churches in a community. This saves time, manpower and is much better stewardship for the funds we have to work with - we can provide more help for less money when we work with what God has provided.
We work with churches and volunteers in China so that we are able to help meet needs for orphans and vulnerable children. Our goal is to help provide educational opportunities for the deaf and vulnerable children living in Western and central China.
For centuries China was a leading civilization, outpacing the rest of the world in arts and sciences. However, all that changed under MAO Zedong, and his autocratic socialist system, a system that over the years has cost the lives of tens of millions of people.
China’s darker side is lesser known. Over 21 million people in China live below the poverty level. That is $90.00 a year! There are an additional 35 million people who live on just $125.00 a year!
Poverty is a problem, both in cities and in rural communities. With China’s laws on the number of children allowed, orphaned children’s numbers are set at over 15 million!
China is also a source for victims in the international sex trade, trafficking men, women and children into prostitution and forced labor in countries around the world including the United States.
Orphan’s Promise in currently supporting an orphanage for disabled children and three other orphanages. We hope to do more as opportunities and finances allow.
