Haiti
The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti has long been a focus of missionaries and ministries from around the world. The needs here are simply overwhelming,
80% of the population is living below the poverty level, and is also illiterate. The average Haitian worker earns about $200 US a year! Imagine paying rent, feeding your family and buying clothes on less than $20.00 US per month!
Water is generally polluted, especially in metropolitan areas, and waterborne disease is rampant, resulting is a huge number of cases of dehydration and disease.
Medical care is another major problem, as this country of 9 million people only has one doctor for every 10,000 people.
Orphan’s Promise could not refuse when we were asked to help deliver a container of food for needy children in partnership with World Concern. We have visited several orphanages and other facilities in Haiti, and are looking into long-term aid through partner organizations.
