India

Once the crown jewel of the British Empire, India is now one of the most overcrowded countries in the world. With a population of over 1.16 billion people, poverty is extreme.

Disposal of human and animal bodies in the Ganges River, where many get their drinking and cooking water, accounts for a large number of illnesses and death.

India is also a major player in the world of human trafficking. Forced marriage, forced labor for men, women and children are on-going problems. Due to the environmental degradation, this once rich land, has led to a loss of crops and added to the nations’ poverty.

Orphans are a growing problem. Many are intentionally disfigured or disabled and put out to beg by handlers. Life is cheap here, you can buy a cow for $400.00, but you can also buy a child for between $10.00 and $50.00! Poverty, disease, orphans, drugs, the problems are the same from country to country.

Orphan’s Promise also supports 3 Christian orphanages, 8 schools and feeding centers for slum children, and an outreach to red light district children.

Major Issues:

  • Orphans
  • Refugees
  • Trafficking (children, women)
  • Drugs
  • Infectious diseases  (malaria)
  • Poverty
  • HIV/AIDS
