Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, two of the most beautiful vacation spots in the Caribbean. But, did you know this gem of an island has a darker side? In the areas around Kingston, there is a tremendous amount of extreme poverty. A drive along almost any street will reveal shacks made of black plastic bags, sticks and boards. Sometimes entire families live in these conditions.

Orphaned and abandoned children have become another huge problem in this metropolitan area. Like many other countries, parents who cannot afford to feed, clothe and house their children will give them up to the streets. Orphanages in this country are stretched to the limit. Lack of funding and overcrowding are common problems.

When we were invited to visit several facilities in the Kingston area we were amazed at the needs. Orphan’s Promise is now supporting 3 orphanages including a facility for handicapped children.
