Mali
Mali is among the poorest countries in the world. Sixty-five percent of Mali’s land area is desert or semi-desert. Poverty is a major problem, as would be expected. Also, the small country of Mali is home to 75,000 AIDS orphans!
There is a nomadic portion of the country, approximately 10%, traveling with goat herds. The balance of the employment in the country is in farming and fishing.
Mali is a nation that is heavily dependent on foreign aid.
The orphan population is growing in number and as a result, Mali has also become a major trafficking point for the illegal trade of children.
Orphan’s Promise is providing support for an orphanage and a Christian School in Bamako.
