Mayanmar (Burma)

Update - February 2011

  • Leadership Development Program for Burmese Youth LDPBY
OP gives $900 a month for this special program that provides scholarships, Christian mentoring, health assistance, leadership training, clothing & other essentials for 11 high school students, most who are orphans – to train them up to be strong Christian leaders for their nation.

  • Grace Orphanage & Sustainable project (5 dairy cows) – OP has built a new two story orphanage building & separate kitchen for the 20 orphans & vulnerable children at a cost of about $25,000. OP has also provided $5,000 to purchase 5 dairy cows – the milk that is sold covers about 50% of the operational costs of Grace Orphanage and has allowed them to improve the standard of care now with more staff to care for the children, better food, and regular health checks.

  • OP also provides $500 per month for David’s ministry to indirectly support his other projects & admin costs.

Known to most of the world as Burma, Myanmar’s strong military government cruelly and ruthlessly controls this beautiful country. Rich in natural resources, the country has seen dwindling income due to mismanagement by the military.

In 2008, a Cyclone killed an estimated 80,000 people and injured at least 50,000, but accurate counts are not available due to the military government not allowing outsiders in to aid in recovery.

Due to mismanagement and a very iron-handed rule, Burma has experienced a surge in the trafficking of women and children into the international sex trade. Men have been sent into forced labor, and the number of orphans continues to grow.

We have provided disaster relief and helped to restore to two orphanages, and have provided help for other orphanages and vulnerable children in the cyclone ravaged area.

Major Issues:

  • Orphans
  • Trafficking (children, women)
  • Children-Forced labor
  • Drugs
  • Infectious diseases: degree of risk: very high
