UPDATE FROM MICS - June 2010

New MICS House #2 Breaking Ground in Macha, Zambia

Check out the pictures of the Macha Workers this week-- WOW!!!! Lots of hard work was put in by lots of hard working guys!! They dug out the foundation for the boarding area of the MICS House.
From the looks of the pictures we need to pray hard for them so they do not hurt themselves or each other while swinging those axes!
I am sure you can tell the soil is very hard and it makes this job difficult.
Keep praying for steady progress as the men keep at it day after day.

May 2010

Supplies have been ordered for this ground level portion of the project. The amount spent is K121,020,000 or about $25,000.00 plus depending on the current exchange rate. The items purchased include: cement, pan bricks, crushed stone, big stones, brick force wire, soft wire, and corn force wire. This is due to the support of OP friends who're helping the orphaned children of Zambia have a home and place to be educated.

Also, prayers were answered in the form of new textbooks! Thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Livingston of NYC donating math and reading text books just as Ronda Krause was saying they needed them. The Flying Mission flew them into Macha a few days later! Twenty boxes of books - Praise God!

Zambia is a source, transit, and destination country for women and children trafficked for the purpose of forced labor and sexual exploitation. Many Zambian child laborers, particularly in agriculture, domestic service and fishing, are also victims of human trafficking. Many Zambian women have been lured into prostitution by false promises of marriage or employment. Although the government has attempted to crack down on the problem of human trafficking in Zambia, it is still a flourishing trade.

AIDS orphans are a growing population in this country, with 1.1 million people living with HIV AIDS, the orphan population is almost impossible to count.

Poverty and poor living conditions, polluted water, waterborne and airborne diseases have also decimated the population. Zambia has one of the lowest life expectancy rates in the world, at less than 39 years for both men and women.

Orphan’s Promise is supporting a Christian Boarding School for orphans, operated by Macha Innovative Christian school.

We are also providing support for a community in Macha that provides training and employment to the local impoverished population which helps make orphan projects self-sustaining.

Major Issues

  • Orphans
  • Poverty
  • HIV/AIDS (approx. 1.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS)
  • Infectious diseases
