Guatemala

Thirty-six years of internal civil war ending in 1996, has left 100,000 dead and an estimated 1 million refugees in the country. On-going drug trafficking and increased government revenues have led to wide-spread poverty in this, the most populous country, in Central America.
Guatemala has a large agricultural community, yet it is not enough to provide for all its citizens, and poverty is a real problem, especially in rural areas. More than half of this country lives below the poverty level.
With this poverty come the problems of homelessness, orphaned and abandoned children, and a high HIV Aids rate.
Orphan’s Promise has partnered with local churches and businesses to provide programs for at-risk children and has opened a Promise House, a child care center in a women’s jail, teaching children of prisoners a different way, God’s way.
We plan to continue on in Guatemala, in partnership with churches in aiding orphaned, abandoned and at-risk children.
