Imagine you are a poor single mom. You cannot make ends meet no matter how hard you try, there is just never enough. You are unemployed or underemployed, and each night you cry yourself to sleep while your children cry from hunger. Now imagine you abandon them on the streets to fend for themselves! I know that’s hard to imagine, but for many parents in Romania it is fact; they cannot afford to feed, clothe, or house their children and feel they have no choice.

When we heard about this phenomenon in Romania, I knew we had to have a hand in helping to not only provide for these orphans, but to create a way to help single moms and dads to provide enough to keep their children at home. We are working hard to prevent child abandonment.

Orphan’s Promise has begun providing money for a micro-enterprise program that allows parents to start small businesses that give them enough capital to feed and clothe not only themselves but their children.

In Rural Romania, clean drinking water has been a growing problem, not only for orphanages, but for the population at large. Through our program, “A cup of clean water,” Orphan’s Promise has provided clean, safe drinking water to over 1000 orphans at a cost of only five dollars per month per child!

Orphans Promise has also developed a training center providing education and skills training for poor rural children.
