CBN.com —Long Qui (pronounced Long "Chee"), 11, tripped and fell one day and knew immediately that she had broken a bone in her leg.
“My leg was in so much pain! My heart started to beat very fast,” she told CBN.
Long Qui’s mother took her daughter to the hospital where her knee continued to swell.
“An X-ray showed her leg was broken,” said Zhen Yan, the girl’s mother. “The doctor said she needed surgery.”
Long Qui’s parents had to move to the city to find work to save for the operation.
The girl’s grandmother took care of Long Qui while her parents were away.
Eventually, Long Qui was able to spend time outdoors with the help of a wooden crutch which was made for her by her grandfather. After three years, Long Qui’s parents had only been able to save part of the money needed to do the surgery.
“My leg still hurt all the time,” said Long Qui. “I was afraid that it would never get well.”
That's when Dr. Wong from CBN saw the youngster limping around the village on her crutch.
“We were there during free CBN medical clinic, and when I examined Long Qui's leg, I was sure it could still be restored,” said Dr. Wong.
CBN arranged for Long Qui to have surgery at a nearby city hospital, and just as Dr. Wong predicted, the operation was a complete success. Today Long Qui has thrown away her crutch, returned to school, and even seen her parents move back home.
“The people from CBN are so kind! Now, my daughter will not have to suffer for the rest of her life,” said Zhen Yan.
“My leg is completely better. And I can walk! I am so happy! Thank you, CBN,” added Long Qui.
