CBN.com —Staff Sergeant Dalynda is honored to serve her country in the Air Force. She helps keep the planes flying safely as an aircraft maintenance specialist.
“I’ve been able to work with a lot of different skilled people,” Dalynda says, “and it’s truly been an honor to work with all of them.”
Dalynda stays busy as a single mom to Jackson and Phoenix.
“My kids are very important to me,” she says. “They’re the most important things that I have in my life.”
Daylynda admits it’s tough raising two kids on her salary. The children sleep in cribs because she can’t afford bedroom furniture. She sleeps on a borrowed mattress. And every other month, Dalynda has to work a weekend. But the affordable daycare center on post is closed on weekends and she can’t afford a babysitter. So she drives an hour and a half to drop off her children at a cousin’s. The evenings alone are hard.
“It’s very difficult not to have the time with my kids. Especially when you’re supposed to have that time off with them,” says Dalynda. “But instead, you know, they’re with a family member while I have to work.”
CBN’s Helping the Home Front learned of Dalynda’s situation and teamed up with her local church in Spanaway, Washington to get her some help.
Pastor John Schier-Hanson told Dalynda CBN was paying for weekend childcare for two years.
“It’ll be an opportunity for you to see your kids in the evenings, on your work weekends. We hope to continue to have you in our midst to continue your circle of support.”
We took Dalynda to Seldon’s, a local furniture store. They surprised her with new bedroom furniture for her family: a full suite for herself, a little girl’s set for Phoenix, and a big boy’s bedroom for Jackson. Seldon’s was so impressed by what Helping the Home Front was doing, they donated most of the furniture, while CBN picked up the tab for the rest.
“I’m truly grateful for Helping the Home Front,” says Dalynda. “It’s an amazing program and I really hope that this program can continue to help our military families in need. Thank you.”
