CBN.com —Ruslan lives in a gypsy camp in western Ukraine. He’s only two years old, and has suffered with a painful hernia for a year and a half. Without surgery, he could develop gangrene or any number of problems that could kill him.
“Sometimes I can’t even feed my children,” says Vera, Ruslan’s mother. “There’s no way we could ever afford surgery for our son. We are not educated, but my husband works very hard. He did construction for a whole month, but was only paid 100 dollars. I know that only God can help us, so I pray.”
When CBN organized a medical outreach to her village, Vera immediately brought Ruslan to see our doctors.
”We knew how serious his condition was,” says CBN Pediatrician, Valentina. “Even something as minor as colic could cause his hernia to become constricted.”
We paid for Ruslan to have a simple surgery that could potentially save his life.
“He felt better at once,” says Vera. “He was in pain constantly before, but now he is very happy. That makes me happy, too. My husband cried when he saw that our son was free from pain.”
Before we left, we gave Vera a washing machine to make her life just a little bit easier. And we helped her plow her small garden and gave her seeds and potatoes to help feed her family.
“No one ever helped me as much as you have,” says Vera. “I thank God and everyone who has helped us.”
