CBN.com —It was just after 8am Saturday morning, April 20th when the ground started shaking in the remote province of Ya-An, located in Southwest China.

A pastor in the area recalls, “My first reaction was. ‘This must be an earthquake!!!’  Right away, I ran --and started telling all the other villagers to run, too!”

One villager adds, “The whole wall collapsed on top of people.”

China reported a magnitude 7 earthquake that day.  Nearly 200 people died.  10,000 more were injured and needed immediate medical attention -  especially in Miao Xi, where much of the population is elderly.

A CBN representative in China stated, “They had no close relatives when the quake occurred. The sixty year olds take care of the seventy year olds. The seventy year olds take care of the eighty year olds. After the disaster, they just lost hope.”

Today, most of the villagers are living in tents.  Mr. Feng was crying because he was in shock.  His legs ached, and he couldn’t see well.

A local CBN team mobilized and made its way over rough roads to meet the needs of people like Mr. Feng.  We sent one of our volunteer doctors in to see him right away, and brought him some food.  He and his wife were grateful.   Moved by tears, Mr. Feng says, “I thank you, I thank you.”

In addition to providing free medical treatment for the victims, we distributed groceries, blankets, and other emergency supplies.

A young woman who came to the aid of her elderly parents said, “It really helped to see CBN here in my parent’s village.  They were the only people who brought us tangible relief every day.”

Our Operation Blessing representative in China concluded, “The relief does not only last for one or two days. It takes some time for rebuilding. We hope more and more people will help us to continue our work here.”
