CBN.com —After a miscarriage, Mrs. Xiao was told she would never be able to conceive. But the Xiaos desperately wanted a baby, so they did the only thing they knew to do.
Mrs. Xiao remembers, “I asked the Lord to somehow please give me a child.”
The couple’s prayers were answered the moment they stepped foot into an orphanage and saw one particular baby boy with a cleft lip and palate.
“When my eyes met him,” remembers Mr. Xiao, “I could see that this baby really needed a family.”
Mrs. Xiao adds, “It was like the Lord put a love into my heart for him and seemed to whisper to me, ‘He is the child!’”
The Xiaos adopted the infant and named him Ying Yan, which means ‘God heard our prayers and gave us the best.’ But raising the baby was harder than Mrs. Xiao had expected.
“It was a challenge to get Ying Yan to drink any milk. He cried all the time,” explains Mrs. Xiao. “When I saw him suffering and thought about how difficult his life would be with this cleft lip, it broke my heart, and I cried too.”
Ying Yan needed cleft lip surgery, but Mr. Xiao is a mechanic and makes less than $10 dollars a day.
“I thought about going into debt to get my child surgery,” reflects Mr. Xiao. “But first, we once again turned to the Lord. I knew He cared even more for my baby than I did.”
Then, the Xiaos heard about CBN, and how we help children like theirs. As soon as the couple contacted us, we set up cleft lip and palate surgery for Ying Yan.
Mrs. Xiao says, “When I got the news, I felt like the dark cloud over my head was finally gone, and the sun had come out. I was so happy!”
The surgery changed Ying Yan’s face and life!
“When the nurse put him in my arms, I looked down and could barely recognize my baby,” remembers Mr. Xiao. “He looked so handsome! Now he’s healthy and doesn’t have any problems eating or drinking! I thank the Lord for this! And I thank CBN for helping us when we had no hope!
Mrs. Xiao concludes, “You have made me such a happy mother. Every time I see Ying Yan smile, I will think of you and how you were willing to share your love with a poor family like mine.”
