CBN.com — For generations, Gypsy families in Ukraine have lived in a cycle of poverty. Kristina's life has been filled with need and hunger.
"Everything is so hard here," says Kristina. "When I get older and have children, I really want more for them. I don't want them to experience what I went through."
So she works hard in school, and wants to get a good job one day.
"I realized in the sixth grade that I want to become a hairdresser when I grow up," says Kristina. "I asked my parents to pay for my hairdressing courses, but they said we didn't have enough money for food let alone extra classes."
Kristina goes to a church supported by CBN. She gave her life to Christ and is now in one of the worship groups.
"I keep asking God to help make my dreams come true," says Kristina.
At one of our summer camps in Ukraine, Kristina met a volunteer who was teaching people to cut hair. She realized Kristina has a natural talent for this kind of work.
Thousands of Gypsy families live in camps like Kristina's in Western Ukraine and are considered social outcasts by society. It is very difficult for them to find work outside the camp. That's why CBN is helping Kristina to learn job skills she can use right in her own community.
We knew Kristina could succeed on her own, so CBN bought her all the tools she needed to start her own business. Now she's earning extra money for her family. And we helped her family start farming potatoes.
"Because of you, we are no longer hungry," says Kristina. "I dreamed of being a hairdresser for a long time, and now it is a reality! Thank you so much for helping us!"
