CBN.com —Inside is no place for an active 10-year-old boy, but it’s where Lu Kai ended up after his health started failing.

Lu Kai remembers, “I got stabbing pains in my feet and in my shoulders. I had headaches, and I could not see clearly.  The worst thing was when I got dizzy and had nose bleeds all the time.”

“I wondered if those symptoms meant Kai had cancer,” Kai’s mother says with trepidation.  “I know some other children in the area had gone through that, and they died.”

Doctors confirmed Mrs. Lu’s fear. Kai had leukemia.

The Lus own a noodle shop.  And when they heard the bad news, they started working 18 hours a day.  Still, they only made $166 a week.

Mr. Lu shares, “All I wanted to do was save my son’s life.”

“My mom and dad kept telling me that they would find a way to get me cured.  But all I could do was cry,” admits Kai.  “Sometimes I had nightmares where I was lying in a coffin.  I did not want to die.  I wanted to live!”

Even though Kai’s condition rapidly got worse, and the Lus didn’t have money for chemotherapy, they refused to give up hope.

“It was hard for me as Kai’s mom to see him get weaker and weaker all the time,” Mrs. Lu says. “But I prayed to the Lord for him every day.”

“We knew He was the one in charge,” Mr. Lu adds, “and knew that He would do an amazing thing in Kai’s life.”

He did.  When CBN heard about Kai and his fight with cancer, we immediately offered to help pay for all the chemotherapy and medical attention he needed.  And after one year of very successful treatment, doctors found that Kai’s blood platelet count was back to normal, and the leukemia was all gone.

“Lu Kai is so different from just a year ago.  He is big and strong. The doctor said he was completely fine now, and there was no danger of him dying,” Mr. Lu comments.  “We wanted everyone to know about God’s faithfulness and CBN’s kindness to help poor people like us.”

“I’m so touched by what you did,” Mrs. Lu adds. “You are strangers, but God touched your heart and you came to help my son.”

Kai concludes with gratitude, “I think the people who helped me are angels.”
