CBN.com — Having another baby should have been a happy time for Mrs. Shen, but it wasn’t—because her son died of jaundice, just 72 hours after he was born.  At the very same time, a two-month-old boy was abandoned because of his cleft lip.  When the Shen’s heard this, they decided to take him in as their foster child.

Mrs. Shen remembers, “I couldn’t imagine him growing up without parents, so we decided we would give him a home.”

Mr. and Mrs. Shen named the baby Shen Zhi, which means wisdom.  But they worried that the boy’s cleft lip would cause him many problems.

“Zhi would be mocked,” Mr. Li says.  “And he would be treated unfairly his whole life.”

Mr. Shen only makes 600 dollars a month as a bus driver, so the family had no way to pay for surgery.  As Christians, they knew that God was their only hope.

Mrs. Zhi says, “I prayed to the Lord to please help this baby—to make his lip perfect.”

Not long after this, Mrs. Shen received a call saying that CBN had heard about Zhi and would provide cleft lip surgery for him.

Mr. Shen remembers, “I cried for joy when I got the news.”

“CBN showed us that there was someone who really cared about Shen Zhi,” says Mrs. Shen.

Doctors repaired Zhi’s cleft lip and gave the baby a brand new look.

“This surgery was so important for Zhi,” says Mr. Shen.  “Now he won’t be rejected.”

To celebrate, the Shens decided to adopt Zhi as their own son.

“You have not only blessed my baby, but my entire family. You helped me to know God more, trust Him more, and be more faithful,” concludes Mrs. Shen.

Mr. Shen adds, “I appreciate you so much, CBN.  God sent you to help us at just the right time.  What perfect gift for us and for our son!”
