CBN.com —For 14 years, Yu Mao has dedicated her life to taking-in abandoned children.  But nothing prepared her for the day a baby girl was left crying on her doorstep, with a cleft lip and palate!

Yu Mao painfully remembers, “I had never seen anything so tragic!”

As much as she loves to name the children she rescues, Yu Mao couldn’t think of an appropriate name for this baby.  “I always name the children something that they can grow into. But I knew just giving this child a nice name wouldn’t save her life.  She needed surgery, and I couldn’t afford that.”

Yu Mao feared the child would die young.  The baby had a very hard time eating and drinking because of her cleft lip, and was unable to develop.

“She cried every time I gave her a bottle.  The milk poured out of her nose and her face turned gray.”  Yu Mao candidly shares, “I was afraid she was going to choke to death. I’ve lost babies before, and it breaks my heart.  I didn’t want this baby girl to die.”

Yu Mao prayed for help.  “I put all of my trust in the Lord and sometimes prayed 4 or 5 hours at a time.  I believed that it was the Lord sent her to me and that He would see her through.”

Then Yu Mao heard about CBN, and we agreed to assist with a life changing cleft lip surgery for the baby girl.  After a very successful surgery, Yu Mao came up with the perfect name for the baby – Hai Jing, which means “The Beauty.”

“My heart melted when I saw her beautiful smile for the first time after surgery,” shares Yu Mao.  “I feel so happy for Hai Jing because no one will mock her when she grows up.  She will be beautiful on the outside and on the inside…and will have a bright future for sure! Thank you, CBN. We love you!”
