CBN.com — Today, making meals and taking care of her family is easy for Amina. But it wasn't always this way. Before now, meal times were difficult because they didn't have any clean water. The women and children here fetched water from a dirty stream or this open well.
Amina tells about their water. "Sticks, insects and other debris would fall into the well. We had no choice but to drink it like that after it settled. The water from the stream was worse; brown and muddy like sand."
Many of the villagers here suffered from guinea worm infections as a result of the bad water, including Amina and one of her sons. She says her legs hurt like she was walking on hot coals. She survived the infection, but her son did not.
"I was very sad and wept often," she recalls. "I was really afraid for my other children because we still drank that same water. What if they died too? What would my life be like without them?"
In their predominantly Muslim village, a Christian pastor heard about CBN. He called CBN, and soon the team dug a well right in the center of the village.
Now everyone there has clean water to drink, cook with and give to their livestock.
"When I first pumped the water, I thought to myself, 'Finally, we have clean water! No one else will get sick from bad water. We will all be well,'" Amina says. "Thank you CBN for bringing fresh water to all of us!"
