Orphaned by Ebola

Orphaned by Ebola

LIBERIA – Six days ago, Ernest lost his father to the deadly Ebola virus ravaging Liberia. The next day, his mother died too.

The fifteen-year-old and his sister are now orphans, quarantined with their grandparents and cousins in their home. To keep other villagers safe, they won't be allowed to cross their property line for 21 days. Meanwhile, they are running low on supplies and remain fearful for their own lives.

Thanks to Operation Blessing partners, our teams were able to provide more than 2 months' worth of food for Ernest's family, lasting them long after their quarantine is lifted.

"When this happened, people ran away from us in the neighborhood," his grandfather said. "Thank God that you are here, and I'm very appreciative of you. It was truly by the fine inspiration of the Almighty God that you came to our rescue."

Teams also distributed a chlorine mixture made by our chlorine generators in Monrovia providing families with hand washing stations and hospitals with desperately needed stores of disinfectant.

OBI teams are working hard to stop the spread of this deadly virus and save the lives of at-risk children and families.
