Potato Farmers Get a Helping Hand

LAS MERCEDES, Honduras – After a plague destroyed potato crops in their region, Honduran farmers were facing not only an economic crisis from the loss of their crops, but they could no longer provide for their families who would soon go hungry.

So CBN’s Operation Blessing International provided farmers in Las Mercedes with new potato seeds and training to maintain an agricultural cooperative that would provide these families with resources during times of crisis.

Already, the seeds have produced a good potato harvest and the farmers are selling to export companies, saving their profits in a common bank account. And OBI Honduras staff are teaching the farmers how to manage the funds for future plantings.

“I’m now able to save and prepare for future plantings,” said Lucio, a local farmer. “I asked God to provide me with the opportunity to work and provide my three children and my wife all that they need, and most importantly, provide them food. Thanks Operation Blessing for supporting us.”

Several hundred families a day are benefiting from the relief distributions.HOW YOU CAN HELP
