Twister Devastates Illinois Farm Town
ROCHELLE, Ill. – As a massive twister headed straight toward Marvin's home and farm, his family rushed to take cover in the basement. When the storm cleared, they emerged safe and sound. And, in spite of the damaged roof, their house still stands—not all of his neighbors were so fortunate.
"You wouldn't believe waking up in the morning and being just overwhelmed—what are we going to do?" Marvin's farm fields were stacked with debris—twisted metal that had once been farm tools, two-by-fours from his neighbor's house, tree limbs, brush and more. Until those fields are clear, Marvin can't plant his spring crops. And if he can't plant now, he won't be able harvest in the fall and provide for his family.
"I knew God would help because He's always been with me," Marvin said. It wasn't long before Operation Blessing brought volunteers to Marvin's house and set to work clearing his fields of debris. "We just could not do it ourselves," Marvin said. "We wouldn't be able to do it without your support."
Operation Blessing was on the ground within hours of the EF-4 tornado that struck Rochelle, Illinois, leaving a 50-mile swath of destruction. Teams are providing emergency relief, coordinating hundreds of volunteers to help the hardest hit families and working with local emergency management officials.
