CBN.com - Morris and Margaret Bennett live in the country outside of Atlanta, Georgia, on a hill where a flood could never reach them.  At least that’s what everyone thought.

After days of rain, a flash flood hit their neighborhood for the first time since anyone could remember.

“When I got back to the house, the water was already three foot deep,” Morris recalls.

“Within an hour it had gone up to 14 feet or something like that, and things were just floating on top,” remembers Margaret.  “You kind of wanted to cry.”

Medical bills had wiped out their entire savings.  And after the roof collapsed they thought they might just have to walk away.

“(We would have) just gone to a one-bedroom house trailer or something,” says Morris, with tears in his eyes.

“(The) first thing hit me was, we can’t have no small place, we got a big family,” says Margaret, who takes care of 14 grandchildren and great grandchildren.   “They’ve never had to stay in a day care or (have) anybody (else) keep them.  When their parents work I keep them.”

“When you get married a man’s supposed to take care of his wife forever,” Morris explains.  “All of a sudden I just see her without a place to live.”

Then a crew from Operation Blessing came out to help.

“And then when Operation Blessing started, they would just come up and they would hug you and show you that they loved you,” says a tearful Margaret.  “I guess at that time you really needed a hug.”

But the Bennetts didn’t even know how much Operation Blessing was doing.

“I was thinking we don’t really have anything going over the top for the Bennetts yet,” says Operation Blessing’s Dan Moore. “They are so into their grandkids and their great grandkids, what do you think about putting a play area maybe down here?”

“I think that would be awesome, because every addition they’ve made to their house has been with the grandkids and the great grandkids in mind,” adds Jody Harrington of Operation Blessing.

A few days later, the house was ready, furniture was moved in, and the Bennetts were on their way home.

“I’m not believing this,” Morris recounts.  “All I saw was people, and the ramp.”

“And that touched me, because I thought that was going to make it so easy,” Margaret shares.  “I’m blessed every day, but today I’ve been double blessed.  I have been so blessed it’s almost like a dream.”

Adds Morris, “It’s kind of like you’re floating in the air.  It feels wonderful.  I started seeing it, and I couldn’t help it.  I just broke down again.  I guess I’m a big baby.  (I’m) just so happy.  I love you, I love you all so much. I love you guys for doing it.”

“I wasn’t expecting it to look like this,” Margaret agrees.

“I wasn’t either. I’m not believing this. In a week’s time, how’d you do it?"

“Four days, actually,” laughs Harrington.

“I came in and saw all this stuff and the way it’s done and it’s just unreal,” says Morris.

“This is your brand new kitchen,” Harrington continues.

“Goodness, gracious!” says Morris.

“This is beautiful, just beautiful,” agrees Margaret.

“I thought maybe some sheetrock was put up on the walls or something,” explains Morris, as he examines the new fixtures in their bathroom. “This is just a thrill.”

“It’s a big burden off of me, and I know it’s a double burden off of him,” Margaret shares warmly.

“Oh, goodness, gracious, look at this. Look,” exclaims Morris joyfully.

“This is just breathtaking,” agrees Margaret.

“Look at that chair over there. You could just sit in that thing forever,” says Morris.

“It’s just immaculate, I mean just beautiful,” Margaret adds. “It looks bigger, and it’s really prettier.”

“Now we also know how important your grandkids and your great grandkids are to you, so we did a little something extra outside,” interjects Moore, leading the Bennetts to their backyard. “Grammy and Grampa’s play yard!”

“I’ll tell you what, I know it’s going to be enjoyable,” Morris exudes. “We’re very blessed because of you all, for sure. I could have never dreamed this, no way.”

“Operation Blessing is really a blessing,” agrees Margaret. “I tell my friends and my family what all they’ve done and they say, 'Who sent them?' And I say, 'All I know is the Lord, Jesus Christ, had to be the one to send them.'"
