CBN.com — It was hard for Luis to watch his children battle the wind and the cold. But his house -- made of plastic and sticks -- was all he could afford.
But things were about to get worse. Luis’ wife came down with a high fever and severe stomach pain; and there was no way he could help her.
“One night, we stood outside the clinic starting at 3 o’clock in the morning,” Luis recalls. “When we got in, we found out that we didn’t have enough money for tests or medicines. I thought my wife might die!”
Then Luis lost his job, because he had to stay home to take care of his children and sick wife.
When Operation Blessing first met Luis, we immediately offered to help.
First, we took Cynthia to the doctor, who gave her a strong antibiotic to fight the urinary tract infection she suffered with for weeks.
Then, we surprised Luis and the family by building them a new, sturdier house made of wood. Operation Blessing team members filled Luis’ new home with mattresses, kitchen supplies, toys and food.
Luis remembers his first thoughts as he entered their new home.
"I was so happy just thinking about the fact that this was our last cold night…and that my children will have a warm place to sleep,” says Luis.
“After we got the house,” Cynthia explains, “I remembered my daughter praying, ‘Thank you God for my window, and my door, and my bed and my toys.’ And then I thanked God for Operation Blessing!”
Finally, Operation Blessing bought Luis the first set of carpenter’s tools he has ever owned. Having those tools has already opened doors for him to find a new job in construction.
“Thank God for Operation Blessing,” Luis says. “You helped my wife and gave us a new home and tools. Thank you!”
