When fires ravaged Haifa, Israel, Hagit Natan evacuated with her toddler Neria. She hoped the fire would spare their apartment building on the Beit Oren kibbutz.
“So probably my house burned for three or four days,” Hagit remembers. “And it burned so bad that they needed to take the building down. So, here used to be a big garden with lots of vegetables and plants and trees.”
Inside, nothing was salvageable, and the government offered little help.
“Basically I’m starting from zero, from scratch, but I’m a single mom,” she explains. “I’m a tough cookie.”
Now she’s renting a very small apartment. She wants to rent a house, but she wouldn’t be able to furnish it.
“I have to rely on the good heart of people, on the opening of their hearts to help,” Hagit says. “It’s hard for me because I always helped others. But, yeah, I need help.”
So Operation Blessing is taking Hagit shopping for furniture, linens, and more. During all the decision making, little Neria waited patiently.
Soon, Hagit and Neria were settled into a quiet cottage, with new furniture and appliances provided by Operation Blessing.
“I can’t describe how relaxed i am here, and happy – the fact that we have such a nice yard, and such a quiet place, and everything is so neat and nice inside,” says Hagit with excitement. “Neria is so happy here. I just feel like someone lent me a hand, and pulled me out of a deep hole, and colored my life in the brightest colors. It means the world to me. I can’t thank you enough.
