CBN.com -- Many people lost everything after tornados hit the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Maria’s apartment was only damaged, but she was in danger of losing everything she owned.
“You have two days to move out. Two days,” says Maria.
Maria’s building was condemned, and she was given 48 hours to move. Maria lives alone and knew there was no way she could move her furniture and belongings by herself.
“I’m really not knowing what I’m going to do, but I’m like, I’m just trying to stay positive,” says Maria. “Because, you know, I remember God saying I’m with you.”
Help was on the way.
“This group of people showed up and I was like ‘Wow.’ I couldn’t believe it like ten to fifteen people showed up,” says Maria. “Everybody knew what to do, everybody was helpful.”
Operation Blessing’s Jody Gettys helped organize the team that helped Maria.“We heard about Maria’s deadline and knew there were going to be a lot of logistics involved. So we sent dozens of volunteer teams throughout the day to even pack up her dishes and all of her belongings. We even sent a construction foreman down to the Uhaul place to rent a large moving truck just to make all of this possible for Maria.”
Maria found a place to live with a family friend and with the help of Operation Blessing, Maria could save her belongings and move them to a nearby storage facility until she had a new home to live in.
“No matter how good these two hands are, they’re only two hands,” says Maria. “But when you have two hands, four hands, six hands, before you know it, you can do lots of things.”
Work continued throughout the afternoon and into the night. With Operation Blessing’s help, Maria met her deadline with an hour to spare, and saved all that she owns.
