CBN.com —In the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, where the Masai live, Operation Blessing owns fifty acres of land. It's a poor area, where many people have no education at all. So the first thing we did was build a school.

“I never thought my children would get an education,” says one Masai mother. “Now that Operation Blessing has built a school here, I can walk my children to school. Indeed, this is a great blessing.  God has remembered us.”

Until now, the closest school was more than five miles away. It's not just the long walk that discouraged parents. Kimana, where we are now, is right in between two major game parks and it's a high traffic zone for elephants. The Masai say the elephants will not bother adults, but they do attack children. Parents have to work so hard to make a living, that they cannot take the time out of their day to walk their kids five miles to and from school. That's twenty miles of walking. So, this school represents the only chance these kids have at getting an education.

As soon as we opened the school, families signed up more than sixty children. They love going to school. But it did not take the teachers long to realize that no one was bringing anything to eat for lunch. They found out families didn't have any food to send with their kids. So Operation Blessing is giving the kids free lunches, and taking food to the most needy families.

Families here are very grateful for everything that Operation Blessing is doing. While the children are being fed, some of the parents gather together to sing a traditional song. It's in Masai, and they're saying, “we didn't expect it, but a Blessing has come to us.”

Families are now farming a large portion of Operation Blessing’s land, so they always have something to eat. This is a dry part of Africa, where  the plants, and the people, need water desperately. So Operation Blessing also dug a deep well here and there is still enough land for job training centers, school expansion, or more farming. Operation Blessing will continue to give hope to the Masai in this isolated part of kenya.

“This is where I was born I’ve never seen anything like this here,” says one Masai grandmother. “It is like a miracle coming into a place where there was nothing. We are praying and thanking the lord for what Operation Blessing is doing in this village!”
