CBN.com — In the worldwide battle against water borne bacteria and the illnesses they cause, CBN's Operation Blessing has introduced a new weapon called the Family Filter. For Mirla and her family, it came just in time.

They live next to a polluted river, their only source of water for drinking, bathing and cooking.

"Sometimes I found dirty diapers and worms and other nasty things in the river," Mirla said.

After drinking the water, the children got sick.

"My son said, 'Mommy my stomach hurts.' He told me that he wanted to die! I felt so guilty for giving him this water. I didn't know it was bad at the time. Now I feel so guilty," said the single mother.

Mirla had learned about water borne bacteria at an Operation Blessing program at her children's school. But with no nearby clean water source, the family didn't have any other options.

"I had no money to buy water, so we had to use the water from the river, which I kept giving to my kids because they were thirsty."

So Operation Blessing provided the family with a new, inexpensive "family filter." Mirla simply pours the polluted water in, and the filter removes the bacteria and debris. The filter will last for 3 years before it needs to be replaced.

"I love the filter you have given us! Now my children don't get sick all the time and they don't have to drink the yellow water anymore. It is now clean and clear thanks to you."

Operation Blessing also taught the kids about basic hygiene at their schooland provided anti-parasite pills for everyone in the family and the community.

"I am really grateful for what you have done for my family and me. Thank you Operation Blessing," said Mirla with a smile.
