Ten year old Wendy’s favorite past time is playing school with her younger brother and sister. Wendy is always the school teacher.
“I want to be a teacher because I like to give out homework,” smiles Wendy.
But Wendy’s games and her future became uncertain when two months ago she fell ill. Her mom noticed she had become very lethargic.
“My daughter seemed very weak. I asked God for my daughter not to get worse, because I wondered where we could find the money for a doctor,” says Wendy’s mom.
The next morning Wendy’s mom made a trip to the grocery store. That’s when a clerk gave her some good news. She told her that Operation Blessing had come to Wendy’s town and set up a free medical clinic.
The doctor diagnosed Wendy’s problem — parasites. And because the parasites had never been treated, Wendy had developed severe anemia and a host of other symptoms.
“Wendy had a lack of appetite, abdominal pain, and general weakness. All these were symptoms of severe anemia, which if not treated can lead to death,” says the doctor who treated her.
The doctor gave Wendy a single dose of the anti-parasite medicine called Albendazole and that took care of the parasites. She then gave Wendy some vitamins to help the anemia. Just two days later, Wendy’s smile was back!
“Today I feel much better,” says Wendy.
Wendy’s mom got an added bonus. To help her start a small business, Operation Blessing gave her a sewing machine.
Wendy and her family are very grateful. “Thanks, Operation Blessing, for helping my family.”
