Ten-year-old Ai of Thailand enjoys catching fish by hand with new friends in a stream near her new home. She now lives at an orphanage supported by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise.
Here Ai eats hot meals every day and has a safe, dry place to sleep. But, not long ago, this is where she and her grandmother had to live in a chicken coup. A stranger had allowed them to stay there after they’d lost their home. The chicken coop seemed like a good idea at first.
“When we would sleep in the chicken coop at night, the chickens would stand on us,” Ai says. “We got bit by lice and fleas. The chickens also made messes on our blanket.”
Then when the rainy season hit, the coop turned into an especially miserable place to sleep.
“We had to catch the rain in a basin and throw it out all night long. Sometime we couldn’t sleep at all.”
After staying there for several months, Ai’s grandmother knew she had to find a better place for them to live. A relative agreed to take grandma in, but not the little girl. So Ai came to live here at this home for children sponsored by CBN.
Ai loved her new home. She made friends quickly and soon prayed to receive Jesus as savior. She also led the other children in prayer for the needs of the orphanage. For example, when the old thatched roof began to leak, Ai prayed hard for a new one.
Thanks to you, Orphan's Promise was able to put a whole new roof on this orphanage — one that keeps everything inside completely dry. So now when it rains, the children don’t have to run for buckets or move the mattresses to keep them from getting soaked.
“I thank you for giving us the money to build the new roof," says Ai. "Now we won’t get wet anymore and can get a good night’s sleep. Thank you very much.”
