CBN.com —Ruth's father died when she was just one-year-old. Then her mother left her at a babysitter's house and never came back.  The sitter kept Ruth, but as Ruth got older, the family treated her like a servant.

Ruth explained, "My foster sister-in-law always made me carry her baby.  My arms would be in so much pain.  And if I ever put her baby down, she would yell at me and beat me."

The family made Ruth sit in the yard for hours washing clothes.  She developed painful sores and abscesses.

Ruth said, "I was always weak, and I often got very sick. Sometimes I was so dizzy I fell down."

School was her only place of refuge, but that too was taken away.

"My foster parents told me that they didn't have any more money to pay for my tuition, so I had to drop out of school," said Ruth.

When her foster father died, her foster mother couldn't even afford to feed her.  A neighbor told them about a children's home sponsored by Orphan's Promise, and suggested they send Ruth there.

"The children were very friendly," Ruth said with a rising sense of hope. "They were like sisters to me.   I also got lots of good food and medicine.  All of my health problems went away.   It felt like Heaven."

We also enrolled Ruth in a school close to the children’s home.

Ruth explained, "I was very happy to go to my new school.  The teachers treated me so nicely."

At the children's home, she also learned about Jesus Christ.

Ruth said, "One day, I went to a prayer meeting.   When the people sang to God, I felt like crying.  And right then, I started praying.  I prayed to God to take my life and make me a nice girl.  When the prayer meeting finished, I felt so free."

Today, Ruth is a happy and confident little girl who knows she is loved and cared for.

"My life is very nice," Ruth said with a big smile. "I thank God that He used you to protect me."
