CBN.com — Ayushmaa was born with cerebral palsy. At two and a half years old, she was barely able to roll over. Living in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia, there was little her family could do for her.
Ayushmaa's mother, Shurnai, explained, "When Ayushmaa was just a baby, I took her everywhere to try to get help; to Buddhist monks and hospitals. She was diagnosed incorrectly and life seemed so hopeless when I thought of her future."
About that time, a team of doctors from an organization called Reaching the Light traveled 12 hours by train from the capital city to their remote town. Ayushmaa was told she could receive free therapy at their developmental center, which is supported by Orphan's Promise. The program consists of therapy at the center, teaching them exercises, and follow-up visits at the center. But the most special part of the program is that every session focuses on Jesus Christ. So each time Ayushmaa and her mother came to the center, the staff prayed for them. It was the first time they ever heard about Jesus.
When Terry Meeuwsen, founder of Orphan's Promise, sat down and talked to Ayushmaa's mother, Shurnai said, "I had no idea about God, but I cried out, 'Are you real? Are you real? If you are real, please heal my daughter.'"
Terry asked, "And then did you begin to see Ayushmaa improve?"
Shurnai joyfully answered, "Yes, it was really amazing!"
For the next several years, Ayushmaa prayed to God every day before therapy, and Shurnai read a Bible that the staff had given her. When they were in the city, they attended a church near the center. Even though her father was a Buddhist monk, one day Shurnai threw her Buddhist idols in the fire.
Shurnai explained, "After I received Jesus as my Lord, everything became peaceful and I really love to share the Gospel."
As Shurnai grew in her faith, she started a Bible study. So far, 30 people have given their lives to Christ. One of them even started a home church in another village.
Shurnai said, "Sometimes people will say, 'She is a monk’s daughter. How can she share about Jesus to others?' But that does not matter to me. I know He is real and I will just keep following Him.
Because of this outreach, Shurnai’s father became a Christian, as well as her husband, her mother, and four of her five sisters. And because of your help and God's grace, Ayushmaa, who once couldn't sit up on her own, is now walking. These are her first steps to a brighter future, and a wonderful journey with Jesus Christ.
