CBN.com —Faa, 12, and her brother Mek, 8, have never met their mom; and their dad is in prison. They now live here in Chiang Mai, Thailand with their grandparents, the only family they they will ever know.
“Faa and Mek came to live with us when they were very young,” the children’s grandmother told us. “From the moment I saw them, I loved them.”
On Mother’s Day each year, Faa and Mek love to honor their grandma by making cards and giving her flowers.
The grandparents support their grandchildren by cooking and selling food in the market near their home. Unfortunately, their house is so small that rain or shine, the elderly couple has to cook and prepare food outside under an umbrella.
“It’s very difficult for them,” said Faa. "They get soaked when it rains. I feel sorry for them.”
And even working 10 to 15 hours a day, there was never enough money to buy what they needed.
Grandma told us that sometimes they had only a little rice to eat. Some of the couple’s neighbors suggested that they send the children to an orphanage. But Grandma said she would NEVER do that!
When CBN’s Orphan’s Promise heard about the family, we built an extension onto their house so they have a place to cook protected from the sun and rain.
And with the much larger wok that we gave them, we cut their cooking time from six hours a day to two! Now their sales have doubled, and they have enough money for food and other expenses.
“I have even been able to save a little for emergencies,” Grandma told us. “We will never starve again. CBN, you have made our lives better!”
