Pressure Free Finances

Steve and Sue Brown of Delta, Colorado were suffering a financial crisis. The bills were piling up and with them pressure.

"I had gotten hurt on the job," Steve remembers, "and I was put on disability. But the disability was a third of what I was making before."

The Browns argued about the bills and, in particular, they argued about tithing.

"I was afraid I wouldn't have enough money per month to live on. I just fought and struggled against the whole 'tithe thing.'"

"Sue kept telling me that she was praying for our finances to be taken care of, and that she really felt that God would hear it. At the time I thought, 'yeah, that would be cool if God took care of our financial problems, but I just don't see how it can happen.' I didn't think checks would start falling out of the sky."

Sue had been watching The 700 Club and was convinced that she and Steve were supposed to be tithing.

"Watching The 700 Club and the Law of Reciprocity — learning that, and going to the word it said, 'Prove Me by this.' It's the only time that God says, 'prove Me by this.' He's proven Himself over and over to us in other ways, and we've trusted Him with other things, why not with our finances?"

Sue called The 700 Club prayer counselors to pray with her about their finances.

"The woman who prayed on the other end for our finances prayed that we would be out of debt."

Steve also began to watch The 700 Club on a regular basis.

"When it came time for the different people, you know, Pat and whoever, to give the word of knowledge, I put it off to some skepticism, but I kept coming back."

And one day while Steve was watching The 700 Club ...

"Pat Robertson came up and he said he had a word of knowledge for 'Susie,' and only really good friends and family call her that."

"The Lord's heard your prayers and He's gonna take care of your financial problems."

"I just claimed it and said, 'that's for us, Lord, I know that word's for us.'"

Sue remembers her joy at receiving the word. "When he called me at work, I was jumping up and down more for his reaction than for the word of knowledge itself. I mean, I was thankful for that but, more that it touched him."

God's intervention made a difference in Steve's heart. "So, I got to thinking that God is acknowledging our needs. So I made a decision to start tithing."

"Once I started tithing there was enough to meet all our needs, plus there was a little bit extra to send in to The 700 Club, plus you know, things just started happening. A place I used to work at 10-15 years before then sent me a check because they held out too much money for retirement."

"I just felt that I had seen so many things that The 700 Club was doing," Steve recalls, "and that the exposure to Jesus from The 700 Club all over the world was so incredible that I wanted to be a part of that too. The only way I could do it was to start donating monthly."

Steve and Sue say that they are thankful to God for his intervention in their finances.

"As of today, we are completely out of debt accept what we owe for the house," Sue declares.

"Now we are probably making the least amount of money in comparison to any other time in our married life," says Steve. "But, the blessings we are enjoying now are much more abundant than we've had in the past."

"I think when you allow the Spirit of God to come into your life, you recognize His truth," Sue adds, "and that's what I heard on The 700 Club. What they were saying was true."

"I thank The 700 Club for helping me and guiding me into that."
