Buried in Bills? There’s a Way Out

CBN.com - Jane Murray loves watching The 700 Club with her two daughters, Jade and Jalen.

“It inspires me. It lets me know that I’ m not by myself, that there’s other people out there that have struggled and have had hard times,” Jane says.

Jane had some tough times herself. After a second divorce she realized she needed God.

“I was alone, again, you know, with two children,” she says. “I just said, ‘this is it. I’m going back to where I need to be.’”

She started going to church and watching The 700 Club. She grew closer to God, but financially she was struggling. Jane’s salary as a nursing instructor couldn’t keep up with her bills and thousands of dollars of credit card debt leftover from her marriage, not to mention the cost of driving a gas guzzling SUV.

“The house payment was over $2,000 a month and I was driving a vehicle that, although it was paid for - it was costing me $800 to $1,000 a month in gas,” Jane says. “You’re deciding which bills get paid, worried that the light bill was going to be more this month; and was I going to have it to pay?  It was just really tough getting through from one paycheck to the next."

Jane had seen stories on The 700 Club of how God blessed others through their faithful giving. So she gave to her church when she could, but the bills kept coming, and she felt she had no money left to give.

“I’m watching these stories and I’m hearing these people say, ‘you provided and now it’s just in abundance and my life has turned around completely,’” she says.  “I just couldn’t understand what was blocking me from that gift.”

On one occasion Jane was crying out to God because she didn’t have enough money to buy gas, or even milk and cereal for her girls.  Later that afternoon, a friend stopped by with a thank you card.

Jane remembers, “She said, ‘you take Zach back and forth to school every day and I just want to let you know that I appreciate you.’ And when I open it, it is a $50 gift card. I mean, you’re on your knees crying and then within two hours, there’s $50 at your door.  That just doesn’t happen and I think that was a turning point for me of, ‘okay, Jane, you’ve just got to trust him.’”

Jane still couldn’t figure out how she could afford to give 10%, until something she saw on The 700 Club made it clear.

“It doesn’t matter how much it is,” she says. “I mean, some people started out with just giving $5, but because they gave it willingly and they gave it faithfully, they started receiving the blessings.  And that’s what really went off in my head that I said, ‘okay.’”

Jane started giving to CBN, using Pledge Express.

“It’s coming out of my checking account, that’s one of the first things that comes out, that’s part of the budget, it’s not negotiable, it’s there, and I want to be faithful with it,” Jane says.

Jane says God started showing her ways to get her finances on track. First she traded in her SUV, which was paid for, and cleared $10,000, which was enough to pay off her credit cards. She also moved out of the house she was in, and found her dream home that fit well within her budget.

“When my kids walked in, my youngest daughter, who loves to cook, said, ‘Momma, it’s even got double ovens,’” Jane says.  “It’s absolutely everything and more that I could dream of.”
 
Jane wants everyone to know that through her faithful giving to church and to CBN, God is giving her everything they need!

“Look how God’s working,” she says. “Look how he’s providing for me.”
