CBN.com - “Car washing in Minnesota is very important for individuals who have nice vehicles of course, and want to keep them in good condition.” Stockbroker Raymond Berg was counting on the popularity of car washing when he bought a car wash company in Minneapolis as an investment.

His hopes for large profits never materialized. As his revenues dropped, Raymond’s stress soared. “3 a.m. wakeups were common. I couldn’t pay certain bills and I had to get extensions on commitments.”

The Bergs soon had tens of thousands of dollars in debt and the creditors were calling. “I was praying, ‘Lord, will You help me find new capital? Will You help me find new partners?’ And it wasn’t being answered.”

His wife Suzanne was a flight attendant. But her salary alone didn’t pay the bills. So they considered stopping their tithe. Suzanne was talking with a friend who made a suggestion. “My girlfriend said to me, ‘Are you tithing?’ And I said, ‘Gail, we cannot afford to tithe.’”

Gail showed Suzanne scriptures about how giving is important. So the Bergs changed their minds and continued to tithe. A passage in the Bible confirmed they were doing the right thing.

“’Do not be concerned about tomorrow, for today has enough troubles of its own.’ It lodged in my heart. If You are my Lord, and You’re the Lord of the universe, I trust You with everything I have.”

And that meant trusting God when he sold the car wash company. He used his stockbroker background to start a financial planning business. His goal was to pay off his debt as soon as he built his clientele. He did it more quickly than he ever thought possible. Raymond tells what happened. “(I went from) not knowing where I would pay it, to suddenly having $43,000 that was owed paid off in five weeks. It was only from the Lord. I do not take any credit for having the ability to expand my business that quickly.”

The Bergs feel God saw them through their financial storm because they were faithful to tithe, even when they thought they couldn’t!  Now they are also CBN partners—and God continues to bless their business.

“If you trust in the Lord, He will see you through. He will provide for you. He did for me. He did for us.”
