CBN.com - “To me nothing was important anymore. Nothing meant anything to me except my little girl,” says Nelson.
Nelson and Beverly Toranzo’s world was turned upside down when their 3 year- old-daughter was diagnosed with a condition that required open-heart surgery.
“To tell you that it was very difficult wouldn’t put it into words,” says Nelson.
Nelson owns his own business installing fences, but between spending time at doctor’s offices and worrying about his daughter he had trouble focusing on work.
Beverly remembers that time. “Nelson was falling apart and the business started to struggle. He was just tremendously stressed out.”
Nelson and Beverly prayed for a successful surgery and a quick recovery for their daughter.
“When the doctor came out, and said everything came out perfect, you know, I just, thanked God,” Nelson recalls. “It was an amazing time.”
Nelson’s business didn’t recover as quickly as their daughter did. The couple went through their savings and Nelson took on additional work selling cars.
“Even through the darkest times of my life, I still praised God. I thanked him that I had some sort of income coming in, even though it was very little, I still thanked him for that,” says Nelson.
One day, Nelson was watching the 700 Club.
“It was talking about a couple that had a daughter in China and she needed heart surgery. So this family didn’t have the money to do the heart surgery. And the 700 Club paid for the entire surgery, this life-threatening problem,” Nelson recalls, “So obviously that was very near and dear to me.”
Nelson was already a tither, and even though they were struggling financially, he decided to become a 700 Club partner.
“How awesome it would be that my few dollars that I’m giving can contribute to that cause that saved this little girl,” Nelson declares, “So I’m all in.”
A few weeks later, he was driving home from work.
““I usually take the same route back to my house,” says Nelson, “but I felt the Holy Spirit at that time prompt me to get off on this exit, so I did. I got off on the exit and then I looked over to my right and there was this big construction site. I really felt the Holy Spirit tell me, “Just pull in there.””
Nelson introduced himself to the project manager and offered his services.
“”He says, “Well yeah, we’re looking to get a fence done. How about you giving me a quote?” It turned out to be our biggest project in the history of my company,”” Nelson recalls.
The job produced more than $100,000 and brought the Toranzos’ finances back on track. Today, business is going great!
“In Malachi, He says just trust me and tithe. I’m going to make your storehouses overflow. I encourage everybody that’s going through a financial challenge in their life, to give with your heart, give with a cheerful heart,” says Nelson. “When you’re faithful, He gives back more than you could ever imagine.”
