CBN.com - Eighteen-year-old Corey Carter has been learning a lot of things his first year of college, but what he’s learned about managing his money came from watching the 700 Club.
“I would watch it every morning,” Corey says. “Gordon was talking about tithing and that God gives it back to you when you tithe. And then one day I just felt like God was moving me to join.”
Corey wasn’t sure about making the commitment to tithe, especially since his hours had been cut at the grocery store where he works. He became a 700 Club partner anyway. “I gave my first check and then I walk in and I look at my schedule,” Corey recalls, “And I was like, ‘Huh, that’s a little strange. I’m back up to twenty eight hours.’”
Corey also needed a new car, because his old one was ready for the junk pile. “It looked hideous; it was ugly as sin. I just wanted a Ford Ranger that was blue. And I just I was looking on Craigslist or any of those online sites and they were all like $8000, $7000 dollars,” he says.
Corey enlisted his uncle to help him. “I got a phone call one day and he said, ‘I have a blue Ford Ranger here. It’s standard, two-wheel drive,’” Corey recalls. “And I was like, ‘You know, I’ll take it. How much is it? It must be like six or seven thousand dollars.’ He’s like, ‘I just talked him down to three grand.’”
Corey believes God provided through his faithful giving. “Tithing; you get rewards for it, and you get blessings for it,” says Corey. “And it’s not just straight cash; I think He does it in other ways. I think I only got that vehicle because I started tithing, took that risk.”
Corey says he especially loves giving to CBN. “If you want someone to really make a difference, if you want your money really to go somewhere, you just give it to CBN and they show you where it goes,” says Corey. “You know, they have Orphan’s Promise. And they just, they go into any country that needs help. They roll the trucks in, they don’t care what it takes and they help people.”
Corey still tithes faithfully, and he’s confident that God will continue to provide. “When I talk to people about it, I always tell them that, you know, it’s gonna be given back to you,” says Corey. “You shouldn’t tithe just to get stuff back, you should joyfully give, but just don’t think that you’re throwing your money out the window, ‘cause you will be blessed for it. He keeps His promises. He’s done it for me, He can do it for anybody.”
