Escaping the Paycheck to Paycheck Life

You Can Love Your Work

CBN.com - For a long time, Carolyn Parker had her own ideas about how God blessed people.

“I was going to manufacture some prosperity by using my credit cards,” says Carolyn. “You get goods and merchandise, right, and long as you can pay this was his way, this is the windows of heaven being opened to me. “

Carolyn and her husband Jim began tithing when they first married. They also used credit cards to get things they “needed” or wanted for their growing family. Their consumer debt reached $15,000 dollars!

“It was kind of depressing because it put you down because you’re making plenty of money but you don’t have any money to do what you need to do with because it’s all going to creditors,” says Jim.

One day, Jim and Carolyn got a wake up call when they couldn’t pay their mortgage on time.  That’s when they started watching Pat Robertson teach about a system to pay off their credit cards.

“He said go to the smallest one and then take that amount and go to the next one. Take that amount and go to the next one. And that’s what I did,” says Carolyn.

The Parkers put that lesson into practice, and started to aggressively pay down their credit card debt.  They also joined The 700 Club

“I love what they do,” says Carolyn. “When I look at The 700 Club, and the wells that they build, the Orphan’s Promise, the gospel is going out over the airwaves.”

The Parkers finally paid off their credit cards and not a moment too soon.
Carolyn’s company decided to leave the state where they lived and she was left without a job. The company paid her an entire year’s salary as part of her severance package.

“That was a blessing because there were people that were being fired with nothing,” says Carolyn. “And the second thing was, I didn’t have any debt.”

Today Jim and Carolyn are retired. And they say the have found peace as they’ve learned to trust God with their finances.

“God is able to supply and He’s able to give you more than what you could ever give out,” says Carolyn.

“You cannot lose when you trust in God,” agrees Jim.

Being obedient to God's truth made an incredible difference for this family. They made themselves available for God's love to flow through them to others, and they are reaping a blessing themselves as well. Join them in partnering with CBN.
