Narnia Movie is Hollywood’s Response to ‘Passion’

CBN.com – (CBN News) - Last year, Christians around the world flocked to theaters to support Mel Gibson's film, "The Passion of the Christ."
And that sent Hollywood a powerful message -- Christian-themed movies can also mean huge numbers at the box office.
Widely criticized by the mainstream media before its release, "The Passion of the Christ" went on to generate more than $600 million at the box office worldwide, making it one of the top 10 movies of all time.
The reason for the movie's great success was that record numbers of churchgoers turned out to support the film. And with movie studios facing the crisis of dwindling ticket sales, the unprecedented success of The Passion has grabbed Hollywood's attention, opening the door for more films that appeal to faith-based audiences.
One of those films, set for release this December, is C.S. Lewis' "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
While the movie has been made to appeal to a broad audience, there is still a very clear Gospel message that cannot be denied.
Movies with strong religious themes were once considered taboo, but now they are being seen by the movie industry as potential blockbusters.
With a struggling box office that has movie studios looking to turn the tide, Christian moviegoers are a demographic that Hollywood can no longer afford to ignore.
