Will I Ever Stop Worrying About Money?

In a world of bewildering times—rising and falling markets, bankruptcies and layoffs, terrorist threats—it’s no wonder that so many people worry about their financial security. Will the fuel crunch cost me my job? Should I delay my car payment so I can get that medical test? My daughter wants to go to college, and I can’t afford it. What do I do?
The biggest question of all might be, “Does God care about my finances?” The answer is, “Absolutely!” Jesus said, “Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; and they have no storeroom nor barn; and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!” (Luke 12:24)
That might not be a very comforting statement to someone who has ten dollars in his checking account and a thousand dollars in bills to pay. I faced the same issue when I quit my job to pursue a writing career. After having no income for almost three years, I had to sell my house to make ends meet. That felt like a huge step backward.
Still, God provided a way, and I learned an important lesson through these trials. When we are obedient to God’s commands, He will give us what we need, though not necessarily everything we want. The Bible says, “I have been young, and now I am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, or his descendants begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).
When does the worry stop? Maybe not right away. As you experience God working in your finances, you will see for yourself how He provides. Your confidence in His provision will grow until you will see God’s help as a normal way of life. Step by step the worry will begin to fade away.
But never forget the order of events. First, you have to give your life completely to God through faith in Jesus Christ. As you learn to obey God and put Him as the number one priority in your life, He will take care of your needs.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be hard times or difficult challenges, but God will help you overcome every one of them. In these uncertain times, we can always count on God to come through.
Do You Want a Relationship with God?
If you want this kind of relationship with God, pray this prayer right now:
Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you took the pain of the cross to give me new life. I ask you to come into my life and to give me your peace and joy. I confess that I am a sinner -- that I have gone my own way and have done wrong. Please forgive me for my sins. I receive you now as my Lord and Savior. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit. Help me to follow you and to serve you all my life. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, you are now a child of God. The things of your old life have passed away and He has made all things new.
