Bling Bling

CBN.comI love to wear silver jewelry. I love the way it sparkles and shines when light hits it. It’s reflective. I used to be a gold girl and wouldn’t even consider silver, and now I have crossed to the other side and most of my jewelry is silver. I have earrings, necklaces and bracelets in all shapes, lengths and sizes, but they are all silver.

Did you ever stop and think how they all got to be in the various shapes and sizes?  The way that it happens is for the silver to be melted first so it can be shaped into something beautiful and reflective.

Growing up in church, I have heard the phrase “the Refiner’s Fire” more than once. I wondered why and how it applied to me, so I researched. Since I am now a self proclaimed silver girl, I searched for silversmiths and learned a few things that stopped me in my tracks.

A silversmith does not place the silver in the fire and leave it there. If he did, the silver would be damaged and could not be used to make a work of art. Instead, the silversmith will hold the silver in the fire, so he is always close to it. Joshua 1:5 says, “No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Just as the silversmith can never leave the silver, the Father never leaves us.

The silver is left in the fire long enough for the impurities to burn off and then it is removed and shaped into something beautiful. The way the refiner knows if the impurities are gone and the silver is ready to be transformed is by waiting until he sees his reflection in it.

Are things pretty hot in your life right now?  Do you feel like you are getting burned?  I promise you that the Father will not leave you in the fire one minute longer than you need. His desire isn’t to harm you. His desire is to transform you into something beautiful, but before He can do it, He has to burn off the impurities. When the impurities are gone, He will see His reflection in you. Proverbs 17:3 says, “The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD test the heart.”  He wants only the best for you. Sometimes the best comes as the result of testing.

Throughout this life, we will feel the heat from time to time. Trust, the Father has your best interest in mind. It may not seem like it at the time, but His purpose is to make you into something beautiful, fit for a King.  John 10:29 says, “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.” Remember, even in the middle of the fire, you are in the Master’s hand.
