HALLOWEEN
House of Light

Some consider Halloween a harmless holiday. And for many it is just
that. But it is also a time when our "popular culture" celebrates
supernatural evil - focusing on witchcraft, demons, cruelty and death.
Irish statesman Edmund Burke once said, "The only thing necessary
for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
This Halloween, you can choose to be silent or you can seize this
opportunity to take a stand against the works of the enemy and gain
new ground with the Gospel.
Ephesians 6: 12 says, "For we wrestle not against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers
of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places." Our battle is a spiritual one and this is a night to
fight that battle.
How can we do this? Most importantly, we need to pray! Start now
and ask God to show you how to reach the children in your neighborhood
with the Gospel. When they come to your house seeking a "treat,"
you can give them the greatest gift of all … the message that
Jesus loves them!
Here are just a few suggestions:
- Fill Baggies with candy and, include a fun, “child-friendly"
tract in each bag, telling them about God's love. Once you've prepared these
bags of goodies, it's important to ask God to bless the children who receive
the packages.
- Wear a tee-shirt or sweatshirt with a Christ-centered message
Most importantly, before you open your door, gather your family together
and bless the evening with a prayer like this: Father, in the name
of Jesus, we ask that the light of Your truth shine forth tonight.
We bind the forces of darkness in the name of Jesus and command that
their powers be broken. We ask that You would send Your angels to
protect the children and families in our neighborhood and pray that
tonight their hearts would be open to the truth of who You are. In
Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
May God bless you as you reach out to your neighbors and take a stand
for Christ this Halloween.
