Weathering Two Storms

Several years ago John had been injured by a truck running over him. Just when his disability claim was about to be approved, a tornado took aim on their uninsured home. How would John and his wife weather this storm? Read Transcript

JOHN AND DEBBIE LACEY

WERE LEFT HOMELESS AFTER A

TORNADO IN JOPLIN CITY.

THEY HAD NO HOMEOWNERS

INSURANCE.

"OPERATION BLESSING" AND

HOME DEPOT PLANNED TO

SURPRISE THIS FAMILY WITH A

GIFT THEY WOULD REMEMBER FOR

THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.

JOHN IS A NASCAR FAN, AND

ONE OF HIS FAVORITE DRIVERS,

JOEY LAGONO CAME ALONG TO

HELP BUILD.

IT IS A REALLY COOL

FAMILY.

IT IS AMAZING HOW QUICK AND

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HERE.

Reporter: JOHN SPOTTED

JOEY OUT OF A CROWD OF 400

PEOPLE.

THESE ARE RACE CAR FANS.

THEY WANT TO SAY HELLO.

Reporter: THEN THE

LACEYS AND THE REST OF THEIR

FAMILY SAW THE HOME FOR THE

FIRST TIME.

COME ON IN.

OH, MY GOSH!

WE WERE ON OUR WAY OVER

HERE TO PAINT, AND IT WAS

ALL COMPLETED.

I WAS EXPECTING JUST THE

ROOF AND THE WINDOWS AND THE

SIDING DONE.

I DIDN'T EXPECT THE INSIDE

TO BE DONE AS WELL AND

FURNISHED.

YOU ALL MADE IT POSSIBLE

FOR US TO HAVE OUR LIFE

AGAIN.

WE CAN KIND OF LOST AND

DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO GO, AND

NOW WE DO. THE STORM AIN'T

GOING TO GET US DOWN.

I WANT TO THANK "OPERATION

BLESSING", BILL GIBBS RACING

AND HOME DEPOT.

WITHOUT THEM, THIS WOULDN'T

BE POSSIBLE.
