VOTERS IN WASHINGTON ARE

EUPHORIC ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED

ELECTION DAY.

THEY VOTED IN FAVOR OF

LEGALIZING MARIJUANA AND

SAME-SEX MARRIAGE.

BUT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

MAY HAVE THE FINAL SAY.

Terry: THAT'S BECAUSE

MARIJUANA IS STILL ILLEGAL

UNDER FEDERAL LAW.

AND THE SUPREME COURT COULD

RULE ON MARRIAGE FOR THE

WHOLE COUNTRY.

CHARLENE ISRAEL HAS THE

STORY.

Reporter: IT'S BEEN A

GREAT WEEK FOR THOSE WHO

ENJOY MARIJUANA, AND FOR

THOSE WHO WANT TO MARRY

SOMEONE OF THEIR SAME

GENDER.

IN WASHINGTON STATE, PEOPLE

OPENLY LIT JOINTS UNDER

SEATTLE'S SPACE NEEDLE,

CELEBRATING ITS

LEGALIZATION.

COLORADO FOLLOWS SUIT NEXT

MONTH.

ALSO IN WASHINGTON AND

MARYLAND, SAME-SEX MARRIAGE

LICENSES ARE NOW AVAILABLE

AFTER VOTERS APPROVED GAY

MARRIAGE IN NOVEMBER.

NOW THAT IT IS HAPPENING,

I'M HAPPY.

I'M EXCITED.

I'M NERVOUS.

I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL ALL OF

THIS IS DONE AND OVER WITH.

Reporter: BUT WITH BOTH

THESE SOCIAL ISSUES COMES A

VERY COMPLICATED LEGAL DANCE

WITH THE FEDERAL

GOVERNMENT.

THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT STILL

MAINTAINS THAT MARIJUANA

REMAINS ILLEGAL UNDER

FEDERAL LAW, AND FEDERAL LAW

ALSO DEFINES MARRIAGE AS

ONLY BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE

WOMAN.

THAT MEANS FEDERAL BENEFITS

ONLY APPLY TO THOSE IN

TRADITIONAL MARRIAGES.

THE SUPREME COURT AT SOME

POINT WILL LIKELY DECIDE THE

ISSUE OF GAY MARRIAGE FOR

THE COUNTRY, BUT SINCE 31

STATES HAVE CONSTITUTIONAL

AMENDMENTS PROTECTING

TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE, IT MAY

TAKE ITS TIME.

THIS IS FUNDAMENTALLY A

LIBERTY QUESTION, REDEFINE

MARRIAGE, AND YOU REDEFINE

IT FOR EVERYONE.

AND THE LAW WILL BE USED TO

PUNISH AND MARGINALIZE THOSE

OF WHO BELIEVE MARRIAGE IS

BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN.

Reporter: AS FOR

MARIJUANA, IT IS DIFFICULT

TO SEE HOW THE NEW LAWS

COULD PLAY OUT.

THE FEDS COULD EASILY RAID

STATE LICENSED GROWERS AND

STORES.

WHEN STATE AND FEDERAL LAWS

CONFLICT, THE FEDS WIN.

THAT MAY MEAN THE JUSTICE

SUES TO BLOCK THE STATE'S

REGULATION OF MARIJUANA.

BUT SO FAR THE DEPARTMENT

HAS GIVEN NO HINTS ABOUT ITS

PLANS.

CHARLENE ISRAEL, CBN NEWS.

Gordon: WELL, WE'LL BE

LOOKING FOR YET MORE LEGAL

BATTLES.

THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT HAS

ALREADY ISSUED AN INTERNAL

MEMO, SAYING THEY WILL NOT

ENFORCE THE DEFENSIVE

MARRIAGE ACT.

SO WHETHER OR NOT FEDERAL

BENEFITS WILL BE EXTENDED TO

SAME-SEX COUPLES, WE'LL

SEE.

THAT WILL COME.

WHETHER OR NOT THEY ENFORCE

THE DRUG LAWS, THAT'S A

WHOLE OTHER MATTER.

WELL, ANOTHER BATTLE OVER

GOVERNMENT POLICY IS UNDER

WAY IN THE COURTS OVER

OBAMACARE.

LEE WEBB HAS THAT STORY FROM

THE CBN NEWS ROOM.

Lee: GORDON, A

CHRISTIANAL BUSINESS IN

PENNSYLVANIA IS FILING A

SUIT.

UNDER THE MANDATE, THE

FAMILY-OWNED CONOSTAGA

COMPANY WILL BE FORCED TO

OFFER INSURANCE FOR

CONTRACEPTION BEGINNING

JANUARY 1st.

THE COMPANY'S ATTORNEY SAYS

IT IS UNAMERICAN TO FORCE

PEOPLE OF FAITH TO VIOLATE

THEIR CONSCIENCE.

AND THOSE FIGHTING THE

MANDATE ON RELIGIOUS

INSTITUTIONS SEA THEY

WELCOME THE PRIVATELY OWNED

BUSINESSES JOINING THE

FIGHT.

JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE A

SECULAR EMPLOYER OR A

NON-PROFIT EMPLOYER, BUT

THEY MAY NOT BE SPECIFICALLY

FOCUSED ON EVERYTHING THEY

DO RELATIVE TO RELIGION OR

CHRISTIANITY OR ANY OTHER

FAITH, DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE

NOW EXCLUDED FROM THE

PROTECTIONS OF THE

CONSTITUTIONS OF FEDERAL

LAW.

Lee: THAT MANDATE IS

EXPECTED TO MAKE IT TO THE

U.S. SUPREME COURT.

TUST'S CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

IS AGAIN RECOGNIZED AS A

STUDENT RELIGIOUS GROUP AT

TUST'S UNIVERSITY IN

BOSTON.

T.C.F. IS A CHAPTER OF INNER

FELLOWSHIP.

IT WAS TOLD IT VIOLATED THE

SCHOOL'S NON-DISCRIMINATION

RULES.

VARSITY LEADERS APPEALED TO

REMOVE THE OFFICIAL

RECOGNITION, AND THE TUST'S

COMMITTEE ON STUDENT LIFE

RULED IN THERE FAVOR.

JIM DEMINT SAYS HE IS

LEAVING THE SENATE, BUT NOT

LEAVING THE FIGHT.

HE ANNOUNCED HE IS GIVING UP

THE SENATE POST TO TAKE OVER

LEADERSHIP OF THE HERITAGE

FOUNDATION.

JOHN JESSOP HAS THAT STORY

FROM CAPITOL HILL.

Reporter: SENATOR JIM

DIMINT'S RESIGNATION SENT

SHOCKWAVES.

HE IS SEEN AS ONE OF

WASHINGTON'S TOP

CONSERVATIVE LEADERS.

HE, OF COURSE, LED THE FIGHT

AGAINST OBAMACARE.

HE IS A TEA PARTY FAVORITE,

AND HE HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE

FUNDRAISER FOR NEWú?p?

CONSERVATIVES IN WASHINGTON,

HELPING TO ELECT THE LIKES

OF MARCO RUBIO AND MARK LEE,

BUT SOME REPUBLICANS HAVE

BLAMED HIM FOR THEIR

INABILITY TO GAIN MORE SEATS

IN THE SENATE BECAUSE HE

BACKED MORE CONSERVATIVE

CANDIDATES AS OPPOSED TO

MORE MAINSTREAM CANDIDATES.

IN OCTOBER, HE GAVE A SPEECH

AT THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION,

SAYING HOW WHEN HE FIRST GOT

TO WASHINGTON, SHE WAS TOLD

BY TOM DELAY TO VOTE FOR

WHAT HE WAS TOLD WAS BAD

LEGISLATION, AND IF THEY

DIDN'T, THEY WOULD GET

SOMETHING WORSE IN THE

FUTURE.

HE REJECTED THAT.

I WAS A FRESHMAN, AND I

YELLED OUT, THAT IS

COMPLETELY ILLOGICAL.

EVERYBODY WAS STARING AT

ME.

AND SOMEBODY FROM THE BACK

OF THE ROOM SAID, DON'T

WORRY, YOU'LL GET USED TO

IT.

[LAUGHTER]

WELL, I NEVER GOT USED TO

IT.

Reporter: THE SENATOR

SAYS HE HAS NEVER GOTTEN

USED TO IT, AND NOW HE'LL BE

ABLE TO PLAY THE AGITATOR

ROLE OUTSIDE OF CAPITOL

HILL, AND OVER AT THE

HERITAGE FOUNDATION.

JOHN JESSOP, CBN NEWS.

Lee: A STRONG

EARTHQUAKE HAS STRUCK NORTH

EVEN JAPAN.

JAPAN'S METEORLOGICAL AGENCY

ISSUED TSUNAMI WARNINGS

AFTER THE QUAKE, BUT LATER

CANCELLED THEM.

ONE CITY REPORTED A SMALL

TSUNAMI DID HIT, BUT THERE

ARE NO IMMEDIATE REPORTS OF

INJURIES OR DAMAGE.

IT HAD A PRELIMINARY

MAGNITUDE OF 7.3, AND IT

CAUSED BUILDINGS IN TOKYO TO

SWAY FOR SEVERAL MINUTES,

BUT OVERALL THERE IS VERY

LITTLE DAMAGE, AND THE

FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR PLANT WAS

UNAFFECTED.

THE DEATH TOLD OVER 500

AFTER A MAJOR TYPHOON HIT

THE PHILIPPINES, AND MORE

THAN 400 PEOPLE ARE STILL

MISSING.

MORE THAN 300,000 PEOPLE

LOST THEIR HOMES.

CBN DISASTER TEAM IS ON THE

SCENE HELPING PEOPLE TO

RECOVER FROM THE MASSAGE

DAMAGE.

POWERFUL TYPHOON BOPHA

WIPED OUT WHOLE VILLAGES IN

MINDANAO, KILLING HUNDREDS

IN MUDSLIDES AND

FLASHFLOODS.

BEHIND ME ARE 70 MORE DEAD

BODIES THAT WERE BROUGHT

HERE, WHICH IS ABOUT AN HOUR

DRIVE AWAY FROM WHERE THESE

PEOPLE WERE FOUND.

THE LACK OF FUNERAL PARLORS

AND BODY BAGS IS NOW A

PROBLEM THAT THE LOCAL

GOVERNMENT IS FACING NOW

THAT THE DEATH TOLL

CONTINUES TO RISE.

RESIDENTS IN THIS AREA SAY

THEY NEVER HAD STORMS BEFORE

IN THIS PART OF MINDANAO.

I LIVED HERE FOR 50

YEARS, AND THE STORMS NEVER

PASSED OUR TOWN.

NOTHING IS LEFT OF OUR

BELONGINGS.

EVERYTHING IS GONE.

Reporter: SHIRLEY AND

HER NEIGHBORS NOW TAKE

SHELTER IN A NEARBY SCHOOL.

BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF

EVACUATION CENTERS, MANY

VICTIMS STAY IN MAKESHIFT

TENTS ALONG THE HIGHWAY.

CBN NEWS HAS DISPATCHED ITS

STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS TO HELP

THESE

PEOPLE.

DISASTER RELIEF IS BEING

CONDUCTED IN THE WORST

AFFECTED AREAS.

THIS IS ONE THING ABOUT THE

DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS OF

CBN, AND, THAT IS IS,

COURAGE PARTNERS GATHER THE

PEOPLE TO BRIEF THEM, SHIRE

WITH THEM THE WORD OF GOD,

AND COMFORT THEM IN PRAYER.

GOD IS TEACHING US A VERY

BIG LESSON.

WE HAVE FORGOTTEN HIM.

THIS IS A REMINDER WE SHOULD

ALWAYS PRAY TO HIM.

THE RESIDENTS IN THIS

VILLAGE ARE VERY HAPPY TO

RECEIVE MAPS AND BLANKETS

FROM CBN.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH,

CBN.

THIS IS THE VERY FIRST TIME

THAT THE GROUP GAVE US

HELP.

I LOST EVERYTHING.

THAT'S WHY THESE THINGS YOU

GAVE US ARE VERY PRECIOUS TO

ME.

GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES SAY

ONE MILLION FAMILIES HAVE

BEEN AFFECTED BY BOPHA.

CBN WILL CONTINUE TO CONDUCT

SEVERAL DISASTER RELIEF

EFFORTS, MEDICAL ASSISTANCE,

AND FEEDING PROGRAMS TO THE

VICTIMS IN THE NEXT WEEKS.

LUCILLE, CBN NEWS, THE

PHILIPPINES.

Lee: GORDON, YOU LIVED

IN THE PHILIPPINES, AND I

KNOW YOU HAVE A HEART FOR

THOSE FOLKS.

Gordon: I DID.

I WENT THROUGH TWO SUPER

TYPHOONS, BUT THIS DWARFS

ANYTHING I WENT THROUGH.

IMAGINE 300,000 PEOPLE

WITHOUT A HOME.

IMAGINE OVER A MILLION

PEOPLE AFFECTED.

IMAGINE THE DEPARTMENT OF

HEALTH ISSUING ALERTS

BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE

ENOUGH BODY BAGS, AND

THEY'RE WORRIED ABOUT

DISEASE FROM THOSE WHO ARE

ALREADY DEAD, DECAYING

OPENLY IN THE STREETS.

THAT'S THE SITUATION, BUT WE

WANT TO BE THERE.

WHEN DISASTERS STRIKE, WE

WANT TO STRIKE BACK WITH

LOVE, WITH COMPASSION, TO

LET PEOPLE KNOW WE CARE.

THERE IS GOING TO BE SO MANY

PEOPLE GOING THROUGH THE

TRAUMA OF THIS FOR MONTHS,

AND WE NEED YOUR HELP.

SO IF YOU WANT TO HELP THE

PEOPLE OF THE PHILIPPINES,

THE ISLAND OF MINDANAO IS

ONE OF THE POOREST REGIONS.

WHATEVER THEY HAD, THESE

300,000 PEOPLE -- WHATEVER

THEY HAD IS NOW GONE, AND

THEY NEED PEOPLE TO COME

ALONGSIDE THEM TO SAY, YEAH,

WE'LL HELP YOU.

WE'LL HELP YOU WITH FOOD.

WE'LL HELP YOU WITH MEDICAL

CARE.

WE'LL HELP YOU WITH

CLOTHING.

WE'LL HELP YOU WITH

BLANKETS, WHATEVER YOU

NEED.

WE WANT TO BE THERE AND BE A

VERY TANGIBLE HELP IN YOUR

TIME OF NEED.

IF YOU WANT TO GIVE, IT IS

THE CBN DISASTER RELIEF

FUND, CBN CENTER, VIRGINIA

BEACH, VIR, 23643.

OR CALL 1-800-759-0700.

AND SAY, I WANT TO GIVE TO

THE CBN DISASTER RELIEF

FUND.

AND THERE IS A PLACE ON THE

WEBSITE ON CBN.COM.

DO IT NOW.

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION.

BE PART OF HELPING PEOPLE IN

TREMENDOUS NEED.

TODAY, OF COURSE, IS PEARL

HARBOR DAY.

THE 71st ANNIVERSARY OF

THE JAPANESE ATTACK ON THE

U.S. NAVAL BASE IN HAYA

HAWAII.

TODAY'S REMEMBRANCE, A

MOMENT OF SILENCE AT 7:55

LOCAL TIME.

THAT'S THE EXACT TIME

JAPANESE BOMBS BEGAN FALLING

ON PEARL HARBOR.

IT KILLED MORE THAN 2400

SERVICE MEMBERS AND 49

CIVILIANS.

THE NEXT DAY FRANKLIN D.

ROOSEVELT DECLARED WAR ON

JAPAN.

YESTERDAY,

DECEMBER 7th, 1941, A DATE

WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY.

Lee: PRESIDENT OBAMA

HAS ORDERED FLAGS TO FLY AT

HALF-MAST IN MEMORY OF THOSE

LOST AT PEARL HARBOR.

AND HE CALLED ON AMERICANS

TO OBSERVE THE REMEMBRANCE,

AND TO HONOUR ALL VETERANS.
